About Mr. Brock Brown…

Mr. Brown was recently promoted to 6th Dan Black Belt Master Instructor in Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do Karate. He studies with his Sensei, Kwan Jan Nim - Soke Mr. Fred
Walliser, 8th Degree Black Belt at the House of Kim in Elwood, Indiana.

Mr. Brown began studying martial arts 36 years ago at Hanover College. During his sophomore year at Hanover College, Mr. Brown studied Shito-Ryu Karate with Mr.
Daryl Gehr in Madison, Indiana at the old Brown Recreation Center.

During the summer of 1975, Mr. Brown transferred to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and began studying with Mr. David Foreman at Foreman’s Karate Academy. While at Foreman’s, Mr. Brown was coached by Mr. Ronnie White during the afternoon class. Mr. Brown went up through the Kyu ranks to Purple Belt at Foreman’s Karate
Academy. During this time, Mr. Brown became well versed in the old USKA, now PKC, tournament karate system and did quite well throughout the mid-west during the 1980's…at one time being ranked as high as 5th in Kumite.

Due to the demands of college graduation, Mr. Brown began studying with fellow Physical Education student Mr. Jim Powell. At that time, Mr. Powell was studying with Mr. Steve VanCamp, another P.E. student at Ball State. Mr. Powell opened up a dojang in Pendleton, Indiana when he began teaching at Pendleton Middle School.

Mr. Brown received his Brown belt in 1978, and his Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt) from Mr. Powell in 1980. Mr. Brown’s Black Belt “test” was under the watchful eye of his current Sensei Mr. Fred Walliser. Mr. Powell retired from teaching martial arts a few years later, and Mr. Brown has been with Mr. Walliser for the past 27 years at the House
of Kim.

Mr. Brown began studying Jukido with Soke Steve Collins about 8 years ago at both House of Kim in Elwood and Mr. Kurt Backer’s Dojang (Backer’s TKD) in Dunkirk, Indiana.

Besides studying Tae Kwon Do and Jukido, Mr. Brown is well versed in the sport of wrestling, as he was the first coach in Mt. Vernon High School (Fortville) history to take wrestlers to "State." For those that don't understand, that is a very big deal in Indiana wrestling circles! He has taken wrestlers out to the University of Iowa wrestling camps seven times to improve their skills and intensity. He continues to follow the "Hawkeyes" and their coaches because "they do it right!"

Mr. Brown has taught in the public schools since 1978. He has taught and coached both middle and high school students, been a successful high school assistant principal, and currently holds an active Principal's License.

Martial arts are his passion and he has taught Tae Kwon Do in Fortville, Indiana since 1980.
